PostSubject: Sesshomaru's Weapons   Wed Mar 12, 2008 3:04 pm

Name: Tensegia

Class: Demon Sword

Description:

Abilities: The Tenseiga is a sword which can restore life by allowing a powerful user to see the pallbearer demons that take away the souls of the dead. As Tenseiga has the power to connect to the underworld, these demons can be cut and destroyed by it, save the soul from being taken. As the dead body revives, their mortal wounds are healed. However, no being can be revived by Tenseiga more than once. This is so the Tenseiga will never be able to bring about eternal life. The body of the being that is to be revived also needs to be intact in order for complete resurrection, since the sword does not induce regeneration into the one being revived if they suffered devastating injuries. An example of this was Goshinki's head. While resurrected by Tenseiga, only his head was restored to life since the rest of his body was annihilated by Inuyasha. It is important to note that Tenseiga can only restore life if the pallbearers are present. The literal translation of the kanji is "heavenly life fang" or "fang born out of heaven", but these are not necessarily accurate representations of the name's actual meaning.

Tenseiga allows its user to see and slay the beings from the underworld, as well as bringing up to 2 beings back to life in one swing. It is later reforged into a weapon with the power of the Meidou Zengetsuha, an ability which was locked in Tenseiga and became unlocked since Sesshomaru showed compassion for Kagura after dying, and it is capable of killing an opponent in a single blow along with its aforementioned powers of revival.

Since Tenseiga can harm the beings of the netherworld, the guardians at the gate that separates the Living World and the Dead, Gozu and Mezu, will not attack anyone who wields the Tenseiga for fear of their own safety, thus allowing them to pass the gate unobstructed.

Other than the power to restore life, Tenseiga has also the ability to protect its user by erecting a barrier in extreme cases or life-threatening situations. When InuYasha unleashed the Wind Scar properly for the first time on Sesshomaru, Tenseiga, sensing that the blow was fatal, gave off a blue light surrounding him and teleported him to safety. This seems to be a built-in defense mechanism. Tenseiga has also protected Sesshomaru in several other dangerous situations.

History:The Tenseiga is wielded by Sesshomaru, who inherited the sword from his father upon his death. The swordsmith Tōtōsai created it along with the Tessaiga from the fangs of Sesshomaru's father, who was a daiyōkai (lit. great yōkai) dog demon famous throughout the lands. Totosai jested that its original name was going to be the coffin cheater but called it Tenseiga instead. Tōtōsai claims that only someone who has the heart to cherish others would be able to use it, but confesses that he has actually little clue to the sword's mysterious powers. Sesshomaru, surprisingly, is able to use Tenseiga's abilities. According to Tōtōsai, Tenseiga has chosen Sesshomaru as its master, regardless of whether he had a kind and caring heart.

Sesshomaru despises the Tenseiga for its lack of destructive power and early in the story, would attempt to acquire InuYasha's Tessaiga using whatever means he deemed appropriate. Tenseiga has been used sparingly, mostly only when Sesshomaru feels like using its power for his own gains such as reviving the head of the yōkai Goshinki so that his fangs can be used to create the sword Tōkijin; or when the sword compels Sesshomaru to use it for a good cause. One such example was the sword pulsing to tell Sesshomaru to revive Kanta's father, and in so doing, Sesshomaru learns the demon graveyard his father resides in figures into Naraku's plans.

Sesshomaru's human companion, a human girl named Rin, is brought back to life with the Tenseiga after she was killed by the demon wolves of Koga; Jaken, Sesshomaru's assistant, is revived by Tenseiga as well after Kaijinbō kills him while under the corruption of the Tōkijin.

Name: Tōkijin

Class: Demon sword

Description:

Abilities: *Kenatsu: Translated as Sword Pressure, it is Tōkijin's ability to cut and harm enemies without physical contact. In the beginning, it takes the form of a rain of needle-like energy which deals moderate damage to foes. Later, as Sesshomaru fully masters the sword, he releases it as a blue wave of energy which completely disintegrates the adversary. The strength of this attack depends on how it is unleashed by Sesshomaru. Usually it shoots beams of blue light, and when Sesshomaru utilizes its full potential it comes out in the form of parallel blue trails of energy similar to how InuYasha’s Kaze no Kizu is released. Amazingly, one Kenatsu is seen as being able to cut Inuyasha’s Kaze no Kizu attack, unleashed by his Tessaiga, in half mainly because of the yōkai levels of the users’ of the respective swords.

History: When Goshinki attacks a village at the behest of Naraku, he encounters InuYasha and the group. In the process of dueling with Inuyasha, Goshinki is able to predict all of InuYasha's moves due to his telepathic powers. Finally Goshinki seizes Tessaiga using his fangs, the two are deadlocked in a struggle to free the sword. From the tremendous amount of pressure applied to the sword, it is broken in half, with many smaller fragments. InuYasha is knocked unconscious for a brief while, but he storms back in his transformed demon form and slices Goshinki into pieces.

Nevertheless, the feat of grasping the Tessaiga with his fangs and able to apply enough pressure to break it is mighty indeed for a demon. Sesshomaru arrives on the scene and he senses the events that took place. He brings the intact head of Goshinki to the evil sword smith Kaijinbō, who was an apprentice of Tōtōsai. Sesshomaru tells Kaijinbō of how the fangs of this demon had enough power to break the Tessaiga, the prized masterpiece of his former teacher whom he now despises, and requests him to craft a sword out of the fangs of this demon. Kaijinbō reasons that he cannot do so because the bones are dead and will not forge a great weapon. Sesshomaru, upon hearing this, draws the Tenseiga and revived the demon's head, its eyes gleam with evil.

When Jaken visits Kaijinbō's hut afterwards, seeking to know if the sword has been completed. Jaken stumbles upon a possessed Kaijinbō, who has been completely overtaken by the sword's demonic aura. Kaijinbō kills Jaken with the sword and sets out to take revenge on InuYasha (Later, Sesshomaru revives Jaken with his Tenseiga).

Name: Bakusaiga

Class: Demon sword

Description:

Abilities: Much like the Tessaiga's Kaze no Kizu, the Bakusaiga can also unleash massively powerful amounts of yōki, enough to slay 20 demons with one swing.[24] Though similar, Rumiko stated that Bakusaiga's wave attack, which is similar to the Kaze no Kizu, possesses greater power than a full power Bakuryūha from Tessaiga

History: Bakusaiga is Sesshomaru's most recent signature weapon. The Bakusaiga manifested itself in the hand of Sesshomaru's fully regenerated, and longtime-severed, left arm during his battle with Magatsuhi. The sword has the power to decompose any organic material that its blade comes in contact with, nullifying any regenerative abilities in doing so. Miroku comments that Naraku would suffer the same affliction should he absorb any demon wounded by Bakusaiga.[6] The blade itself is the manifestation of Sesshomaru's own true power, born from his detachment of InuYasha's Tessaiga. Its birth signifies Sesshomaru's graduation into a full-fledged daiyōkai, which was long compromised by his obsession with Tessaiga. Totosai comments that his ability to manifest his own blade suggests his strength has surpassed that of his father's and connotes his growth through the many trials he endured to emerge as a daiyōkai, with the Bakusaiga serving as the product of this 'rite of passage'.
